Biotin is a water-soluble vitamin, formerly known as vitamin H and now referred to as vitamin B7. It is an important component of enzymes involved in the metabolization of fats, carbohydrates and amino acids in the body. As a cofactor, it acts as a catalyst in a variety of metabolic processes in the human body (e.g. in the synthesis of fatty acids or gluconeogenesis). Biotin is also necessary for the proper utilization of the three essential branched-chain amino acids (leucine, isoleucine and valine). For this reason, it is often included in various cosmetic products to strengthen hair and skin.
- It contributes to normal energy metabolism and the normal metabolism of macronutrients.
- It supports the normal functioning of the nervous system and normal psychological function.
- It helps to maintain the normal condition of hair, skin and mucous membranes.
